Health Room

Health Room

St. Anthony School has a health room available to students during school hours. The School Nurse will contact a student’s parent or guardian if they are ill. All medication is dispensed from the health room. Parents should NOT send any medications with their children to school without first consulting our School Nurse. The School Nurse coordinates health screenings and emergency drills. As a part of our disaster preparedness plans, the School Nurse maintains a disaster container on the school grounds.

Healthy Students Make Better Learners!
We recommend that you keep your child home from school when they have the following symptoms:
  • Fever of 100 degrees F or greater
  • Fever within the last 24 hours
  • A bad cold
  • Frequent, hard coughing
  • Vomiting within the last 24 hours
  • Loose, watery bowel movements
  • Head lice or nits
  • Drainage from ears or eyes
  • Inflammation of eye or eyelid
  • Has been on antibiotics for less than 24 hours
  • Unexplained rash

If your child is sent to school with any of the above symptoms or develops any of the above symptoms during the school day, you will be requested to pick them up from school in a timely manner.

Likewise, a student with a contagious illness should not attend school until the condition is no longer considered contagious. Please refer to our Communicable Disease Policy for more information.

Parents should immediately notify the school about the child’s contagious condition so school parents can be informed by the school.

COVID Protocol

COVID protocol for students who test positive for COVID-19, or students that have symptoms after they were exposed:

Whether your child is up-to-date-on their vaccines or not, anyone who tests positive should isolate from others in their home for at least 5 days. Day 1 is the first full day after your child’s symptoms developed or the day your child got their test. Isolating for 10 days is the safer option since it's still possible to spread COVID-19 after day 5 (though your child will not be nearly as contagious as earlier in your infection).

After 5 days, if your child is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and has no symptoms or symptoms are going away, or if they never had symptoms, they can leave their home. Do NOT have your child leave your home if they still have a fever. Your child must continue to wear a high-quality, well-fitting mask around others for 5 more days (for a total of 10 days.) When your child ends isolation, they should still avoid being around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 until at least day 11.
Optional: If your child has access to a test and wants to test as an extra safeguard, you should test your child towards the end of the 5-day isolation period using a rapid antigen test if possible. If your child’s test is positive, you should continue to isolate for another 5 days (for a total of 10). If your child’s test result is negative, your child may return to School and should continue to wear a well-fitting mask around others.

If your child’s symptoms last longer than 5 days, continue isolating your child until symptoms have improved and they no longer have a fever.

If your child has moderate (shortness of breath or difficulty breathing) or severe illness (they were hospitalized), isolate through day 10. If your child has severe illness or a weakened immune system, consult your doctor before ending isolation.
