Speech Team

The St. Anthony Speech Team, founded in 2024, is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who want to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and be part of a supportive, high‑energy team. Students prepare and compete in multiple categories, choosing events that match their interests and help them grow as speakers and performers.

Each year, our team competes in two major Seattle‑area tournaments: Bishop Blanchet High School in December and Seattle Preparatory School in February. Schools may bring up to 20 students, representing as many as 40 total speech entries across a wide range of events. Team practices are generally held weekly throughout the season.

Students can participate in a variety of categories, including Impromptu, Oratory, Duo Interpretive Reading, Expository, Editorial Commentary, Storybook, and Dramatic or Humorous Interpretive Readings. Each event offers a unique way for students to express themselves, develop new skills, and gain confidence in front of an audience.

The Speech Team helps students grow in critical thinking, writing, creativity, and public speaking while forming friendships and learning to perform under pressure. These skills benefit students in every class and prepare them for future academic and real‑world success.
