About Ms. Wright:
Welcome to 5B! I am excited for another year of learning and growth. I have been teaching at St. Anthony since 2019 and have been teaching in Catholic schools since 2015. After receiving a BA in History from the University of Notre Dame, I earned an MA in Education through the University of Portland's PACE program. What I love about teaching is the ability to help students grow in their skills and understanding of the world around them, especially as they begin to enter their intermediate years. I live in Seattle and love to garden, hike, read, and play board games.

Favorite Bible Verse: "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."  (Philippians 4:8)

General Math Homework: Monday/Wednesday - Reflex Green Light; Tuesday/Thursday - 20 min of IXL (specific skills listed in planner)

April 22nd - April 26th
Happy Earth Day!  This final full week in April includes several important academic and extracurricular events.  5B students will be taking the ACRE assessment on Tuesday morning, which measures what students have learned in religion classes from Kindergarten-5th grade.  Students do not need to study for this quiz, but should get a good night's sleep tonight.  After finishing the Web of Life unit, students will now review and take a quiz on this topic on Thursday, followed by a Spelling quiz on Friday and a Greek & Latin roots quiz on Friday.  There will be time for reviewing all of these subjects during class, but students will also want to put in some study time at home to ensure they are prepared.  Our religion topic this week is the Eight Commandment and we're also continuing to read The Sign of the Beaver in conjunction with our study of Native Americans.  We're also continuing to study Geometry in math with a close look at triangles and quadrilaterals.  I hope that many families are able to attend the Auction on Saturday night to support the school while having a great time!
Announcements:
1. ACRE Assessment Tuesday 4/23
2. Science Quiz Thursday 4/25
3. Spelling Quiz Friday 4/26
4. Greek & Latin Roots 4-6 Quiz Friday 4/26

This week we continue to learn about the Web of Life in Science, with a look at the dinosaur extinction.  We'll also head toward the end of our Greek & Latin Roots study. Our religion topic this week is our responsibility to share, and we're also continuing to read The Sign of the Beaver in conjunction with our study of Native Americans. In Math, we are beginning to study geometry with a look at vocabulary and then angles.  Biztown packets went home last week, so if you haven't already please carefully read through the packet and return the forms with payment!  This exciting trip will take place on May 29th.  Please also take a look at the Family Life letter and return that permission slip.  Students will need to turn in their quilt squares for our auction project on Wednesday - thanks to Mrs. Curtis for coordinating this project.  Finally, the band students will be performing at the PTC meeting on Thursday night!

Welcome to Holy Week.  As we draw near to the Triduum and then Easter, we will be winding down studies in preparation for Easter break.  This week our religion studies will focus on discovering the events of Holy Week through their Biblical accounts and exploring the Exodus story, in addition to a special Stations of the Cross led by our 4th grade on Wednesday.  We'll observe our decomposition experiment and take a very close look at other decomposers in Science, as we continue to learn about the Web of Life.  Students have also finished studying a group of Greek & Latin roots, so we'll take a quiz on Wednesday or Thursday along with a short spelling quiz.  We will also review decimal operations and finish with a math quiz on Wednesday or Thursday.  Since this is a short week and we have been moving at 'top speed' recently, we'll take a break from vocabulary and our typical ELA curriculum to create projects on The Cay.  Students have selected different types (15 different options!) of projects and will be working on these both in class and at home before presenting to each other on Thursday.  Best wishes for a reflective Holy Week and a fun break!

September 25th - September 29th
Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  As we mark one month back in school, students are now in the full swing of academics.  This week we will finish Chapter 1 in math and have our first math quiz on Wednesday, which will cover place value, comparing/ordering numbers, and estimating.  Two days will be devoted to in-class review so that we can prepare well.  In ELA, we continue to look at personal narratives and will also begin our first class novel (Tuck Everlasting), as well as another group of vocabulary words.  Our science topic remains the earth/sun systems, which will take us into a 'seasonal' mystery this week.  Finally, we will conclude our study of the liturgical year by finishing the liturgical calendar project this week.  Students will be given at least an hour and a half of work time in class, but if they need more time to finish it will be homework.  5B students will be reading at the School Mass at 9:00 am this Friday, September 29th so know that you are invited to join us if you're able.  Let's have a great week!

September 18th - September 22nd
Welcome back from the weekend!  This week we will continue working with comparing, patterns, and estimating in math, begin the liturgical year project in religion, and learn about the earth and sun in science.  In ELA, we will finish our first personal narrative, move on to the next, and practice using dialogue while additionally moving through Vocabulary Unit 2 this week.  Grades for the first vocabulary quiz will soon be on PowerSchool and I will continue to update math homework and other grades.  Since many students have now acquired their instruments at the Kennedy rental last Saturday, all band students should plan to bring their instruments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Let's have a great week!

September 11th - September 15th
Today marked the first Monday of the school year!  We watched a short, student friendly documentary about 9/11 today with a brief discussion after.  As students become familiar with more routines, we get ever deeper into the 'swing' of the school year.  Our math homework schedule of Reflex on Mon/Wed and IXL on Tues/Thurs will begin to be graded this week, as will our regular vocabulary quizzes on Fridays.  We are continuing to read, write, and analyze personal narratives in Language Arts.  In religion we will start to learn about the liturgical year and our math topic remains whole numbers up to 10,000,000.  Additionally, students are now attending Social Studies and Science several times a week, which means it's time to delve into our first science mystery about the solar system.  Finally, band officially begins on Thursday!  Students will not need their instruments this week because the instrument rental is on Saturday at Kennedy Catholic.  A few additional notes - 5B will plan to visit the Book Fair during the school day on Thursday, I hope to see many families at Curriculum Night on Thursday, and MAP testing begins for 5B on Friday morning of this week (please help your student to get a good night's rest and a good breakfast the morning of).  Busy week!

Welcome back from the long weekend!  We began to get into our usual routine today and will gradually slide into academics throughout the week, amid many beginning of the year events.  Today we had the pleasure of attending a band assembly to learn more about each available band instrument - please be on the lookout for a handout regarding instrument rental.  As we dive into the year students will start to have regular homework, so please help your student to find a time to get this completed.  Social Studies will start tomorrow and we will also have our first spelling quiz on Friday!  It has been great to get to know the students in 5B a little over the last few days and I am looking forward to the year ahead!
