Physical Education Specialist

St. Anthony School's Physical Education program is designed to teach fun-packed physical education lessons in a sequential co-educational program. It is based on sound educational principles, and teaching methodology and meets the requirements for current P.E. curricula in the United States.




2010/2011 PHYSICAL EDUCATION   

NASPE National Standards for Physical Education

Standard 1:
Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Standard 2:
Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3:
Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4:
Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5:
Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6:
Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.


The primary objectives are:


  • to foster in children a love of physical activity and play

  • to instill a need for physical fitness in each child

  • to develop coordination, grace, and control

  • to provide opportunities for increased responsibility in planning, organizing, and leadership

  • to give children as wide a skill, games, and dance experience as possible

  • to present opportunities for children to belong to a group in which each child is accepted

  • to provide experiences which will develop initiative, self-reliance, self-worth, loyalty, honesty, kindness to others, and a love of learning

  • to develop a sense of fair play and cooperation in children and the ability to work in groups, leading to increased cultural understanding

  • to provide opportunities for integration of P.E. with other subject areas: language arts, math, social studies, science, health, music and art
