Vision and hearing screenings are performed every year by parent volunteers in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7.
Parents will be notified by the Health and Safety Coordinator if a concern results from the screening.
Scoliosis screening will no longer be part of the screening programs in schools. The legislature recently made the decision that schools are not the ideal setting for these screenings, nor are they the best use of school health resources. It was concluded that due to the lack of a simple and reliable test, unnecessary medical referrals were being made. Therefore, the legislature has repealed this law.
Scoliosis means a lateral or S-shaped curvature of the spine. Spinal screenings are recommended during the growth spurt years, ages 10 through 14. It is important that your child be screened for scoliosis by a health care professional.
